A dairy cow for protein and calcium
Boost a family’s protein and calcium intake by giving them
their very own dairy cow. Capable of producing 200,000
glasses of milk in its lifetime, a cow is a gold mine of health for
parents and children alike. You’ll also help a family earn money
at the local market by selling extra dairy products. Offspring
can be sold for extra income, too—or shared with other families,
extending the impact of your gift!

|
Equip a woman or girl with job training
Widows, orphaned teens, women whose husbands do not provide
for their families, and other at-risk women face hunger and shame
because they cannot support themselves or their children. Your
gift to provide vocational training through World Vision staff can
change the life of such a woman or girl. You’ll provide skills instruction,
materials, marketing training, and ongoing support that will
open the door to a respectable, rewarding trade such as tailoring,
hairdressing, jewelry-making, or dairy farming—and keep women
and girls from unthinkable, soul-numbing choices like street begging
or prostitution.

A fishing kit to feed and support a family
Fish, a wonderful source of protein and
income, are in plentiful supply in the inland
rivers and lakes of Malawi. Yet many hungry
families have no way to catch them. Your
gift will provide an impoverished youth with
equipment such as a fishing pole, hooks and
lines, a fishing basket—and the satisfaction of
providing for his or her family.

Give 10 fruit trees to boost health and income
Mangoes, oranges, and other fruits are packed with
vitamins and nutrients that growing kids need. In just two
or three years, such trees can also yield enough fruit for
much-needed extra income, offer shade from the sweltering
heat, and provide seedlings to give other families their
own start in tree farming. Bless a family in Malawi with a
grove of fruit trees today!

Small business loan for a hardworking woman
Put strength in the hands of an impoverished woman with
a small loan she can use to start or expand a business—the
income from which can help feed, clothe, and educate her
children. As loans are repaid, the funds are used to provide
new loans to others. Your gift today can be recycled by staff
to help many women in the years to come!

A well for clean, life-giving water
In Malawi, a well just 60 feet deep can
bring new health and life to a village of
150 people. The well you help dig will be
capable of providing more than 600 gallons
of safe water a day for drinking, bathing,
irrigating crops, and nourishing livestock.
When World Vision drilling teams strike
water, entire villages erupt in celebration
because a clean water source can cut a
community’s child mortality rate in half.

Support the Nkhoma Orphans Project
AIDS has robbed more than half a million children
in Malawi of one or both parents. Millions more
have been affected by the loss of teachers, parents,
doctors, and farmers—the very people children
rely upon to provide for basic needs. The result
has devastated the community of Nkhoma.
Malnutrition runs rampant, and stunting affects
more than half of the children under 5.
Your gift will help World Vision staff respond to the
needs of 5,000 orphans and vulnerable children in
Nkhoma by supplying things like:
Goats for nourishment and income
A newly-constructed school
Seeds, tools, and training for farmers
Age-appropriate HIV-prevention education based
on biblical principles
Small business loans for hardworking families
A well for clean, safe water for the entire
community
With the help of generous donors like you, the
children of Nkhoma can escape the shadow of
AIDS and poverty—and fulfill their God-given
potential.

Construct schools or classrooms
Children in Malawi struggle to study in makeshift classrooms, dilapidated buildings, or in the open air with no building at all. The resulting danger and discomfort result in poor lesson quality, poor grades, and high dropout rates. Your gift to construct a school and/or renovate existing schools will help provide a permanent, safe learning environment that can benefit hundreds or even thousands of orphans and vulnerable children for years to come—and ultimately build a stronger community.

|
|
Goats, pigs, and training in animal breeding
Livestock can provide vital nutrition to orphans and
vulnerable children and to those living with HIV or AIDS
near Nkhoma. This initiative will train community-based
organizations to breed and raise pigs and dairy goats,
which will provide added nutrition to malnourished
orphans and vulnerable children and to people living with
HIV or AIDS.
Twenty community-based organizations will be trained
in pig farming and breeding, and 20 organizations will
be trained in goat breeding. Five hundred pigs and 220
goats (20 male and 200 female) will be provided on
revolving loan to the organizations for use by orphans and
vulnerable children and those living with HIV or AIDS.

|
Preventing HIV and AIDS
The next generation is the key to turning the tide on
the worldwide AIDS pandemic. You can help stop the
spread of AIDS in Malawi, where infection rates are
rapidly increasing in vulnerable demographic groups
like teens. Your gift will help train peer educators,
and conduct community-wide campaigns to reduce
cultural practices that contribute to the spread of
HIV/AIDS.

|
|
Caring for those with HIV or AIDS
With appropriate support, many of those living with
HIV or AIDS can live productive lives. This activity will
target individuals living with these diseases to ensure
they have access to the nutrition, health-care services,
and psychosocial support they need. This initiative will
train faith-based and community-based organizations
to support and care for those living with HIV or AIDS,
distribute home-based care kits for volunteers to use
in caring for patients, establish gardens to provide the
herbs essential to support those living with HIV or AIDS,
and organize monthly group therapy meetings for those
living with HIV or AIDS.
|
|
|
Caring for orphans
For children in Nkhoma who have lost a
parent to AIDS, every day can be filled with
fear and uncertainty. You can help protect
a child in Nkhoma–not only for today, but
also for tomorrow. Your gift will provide
resources like supplemental food, support
and care, and for older orphans, vocational
training.

|
|
Increase food supply by providing quality seeds
The number one issue in Malawi is the shortage of food. Access
to quality crop seeds is essential in areas like Nkhoma, where the
vast majority of families rely on subsistence farming for food and
to earn income. This portion of the Nkhoma Orphans Project will
help ensure orphans and vulnerable children and those living
with HIV or AIDS have access to quality seeds through seed
multiplication activities. Twenty community-based organizations
will be identified to implement the multiplication of corn,
cassava, bean, and peanut seeds. Quality seeds will be “loaned” to
these organizations, and the loans will be paid back with newly
multiplied seeds. With access to improved seeds, orphans and
vulnerable children and people living with HIV or AIDS will be able
to grow more and better-quality crops.

much of their equipment in the field. This fund will go

remote areas where the road conditions are
poor. This vehicle has spare parts available
locally and is not costly to maintain.

|
Construct a youth center
Provide funding for a Youth Center that will be
operated by Vasco Kachipapa of Nkhoma Youth
Department. It will accommodate 40 young people
(two in each room) during training workshops and

operate and maintain the facility.

Your gift will provide Bibles and other Christian
literature in the native language of the people of

of the Good News through your generous gift.

Provide for most pressing needs
Gifts to this category are for general/unrestricted use and will go to the most pressing needs for Y-Malawi, rather than a restricted/specific designation. All gifts to Y-Malawi are important to us and the people of Malawi, but gifts to this category are especially appreciated because they allow us the flexibility to apply them wherever they are most needed. This could range from responding to newly emerging needs as we hear about them to covering hard to define expenses that facilitate the advancement of the whole Y-Malawi movement and organization. Gifts of any amount are most appreciated!
